If you still need to round off your holiday shopping, I have an idea for you. What I have been up to in the last 5 weeks is tracking, mixing, and mastering Black Sea Hotel's first full-length album. For those of you new to my list, when I am not taking pictures, I am singing vocal music and arranging for my Bulgarian A Cappella quartet here in Brooklyn. We're called Black Sea Hotel and we would love to share our new album with you! Samples of the tracks can be heard on our myspace: http://www.myspace.com/blackseahotel.

This link will direct you to a page where you can pre-order our CD: http://www.BlackSeaHotelUSA.com
I attached the album art below (masterfully designed by Sean Mosher Smith at http://www.echodesignlab.com and with photography by Aubrey Edwards at http://www.aubreyedwards.com) below so you can see what you're getting into.
Also, I thought it important to talk about the relationship between photo and singing for me. My friend Peter Spagnuolo wrote this up for me yesterday- It seems that what draws me to create in photography is pretty darn similar to what I am drawn to sonically, vocally, in Black Sea Hotel. He agrees. He so kindly wrote this up for me... and, Wow! if the bewitching part is true, then I feel this must be the perfect holiday gift. :--)  Thank you Peter- so sweet of you.
In her photographs, Ms. Small freezes the busy intersection of artifice with happenstance, where a jarring, bright palette collides with vibrant subjects to forge an uneasy sensuality; just so, in her exploration of music with Black Sea Hotel, the same sensibility inevitably claims her ear and her heart, embodied in an ancient, folk tradition as it bends strong pitches together in a four-part harmony at the edge of dissonance, bewitching and dislocating, arresting time in a quaver of voices.
