Sarah Small | Artistic Director

Sarah Small a New York based photographer. Her work explores disassociated themes in the same glance by bringing people, activities and emotions -- with little overlap in reality or imagination -- into implausible contact. Small’s images capture living subjects up-close and in intimate interaction in stark compositions and disarming candy colors.

Small’s work has appeared in publications including Vogue, Life, Rolling Stone, HOW, Surface Magazine, Psychology Today, Sony, Vice, Playgirl New York Magazine, and The New York Times. Her images have been exhibited in major and minor U.S. cities alike, in such venues as The Corcoran Gallery, Farmani Gallery, Stricola Contemporary, Center for Fine Art Photography, Exit Art, Silverstien Photography, Chelsea Art Museum, Jen Beckman, and Photographic Center Northwest. Small’s work has been shown around the globe in cities including Paris, Berlin, London, Beijing, Nantes, Amsterdam, Toronto, and Sydney, and showcased in exhibitions at the Australian Center for Photography, Caprice Horn Gallery,and the Bova Image Festival.

Small has been the recipient of numerous awards. Most recently, she was given a 10 Best 10 Award by WIN Initiative and Resource Magazine. This past summer, she was one of two American finalists in the 8th annual International Talent Support Competition (ITS#8). Small has been nominated for the Santa Fe Prize, and for 3 consecutive years, she has been a finalist in Photo Lucida’s Critical Mass Competition. She has been honored in competitions held by American Photography 24, Magenta Foundation, Px3, and the Annual Photography Masters Cup. Small was given the Avant Gaurdian Award by Surface Magazine in 2005 and, three years later, selected as one of eight honorees spanning the life of the decade-old competition. Recently, American Photo Magazine named her as one of the “Top 13 Emerging Photographers” working today.

Small currently teaches at the Parsons School of Design and has served as a board member for the American Society for Media Photographers, New York Chapter. She was born into a family of musicians and writers and spent her high-school years wandering the streets of her hometown of Washington, D.C., equipped with her Pentax K1000. Following her training at the Rhode Island School of Design, Small moved to Brooklyn where, when not working on photography and performance projects, she sings and arranges vocal scores with Black Sea Hotel, Brooklyn’s Balkan a Cappella quartet.

Chrissie Rouse | Producer

Chrissie Rouse is a New York based visual artist, working primarily in charcoal drawing and photography. After two years of study at the Maryland Institute College of Art, Chrissie returned home to New York where she received her BA in studio art, with a minor in art history from Stony Brook University. Her work ranges from portraiture to nature scapes, to adventures in mixed media, abstraction and tainted realism. She participates annually in Gallery North's Wet Paint Festival on Long Island, and has recently exhibited her work in group shows in both Brooklyn and Queens.

With a strong background in administration and retail management, Chrissie has recently transitioned her professional career into the world of fine art and culture. She has done volunteer work for the Manhattan based Affordable Art Fair and the New York Photo Festival in DUMBO, Brooklyn. Additionally, she worked as a Research and Marketing intern for the New York Foundation for the Arts' Fiscal Sponsorship Program, prior to coming on board as a team member for Tableau Vivant, and Studio Director for Sarah Small Photography.

When she is not working or in her studio, Chrissie can be found parading around town with one of her fantastic vintage Polaroid cameras, or confined to her kitchen in a baking extravaganza.

Rima Fand | Musical Director

Luminescent Orchestrii : Don Cristobal

Rima Fand has created music for numerous theater productions in NYC. She is currently co-creating a musical puppet play entitled Don Cristobal, Billy-Club Man, inspired by writings of Federico García Lorca, which has been developed in the HERE artist-in-residence program and will premiere at Clemente Soto Velez in early April. Rima also composes music for her raucous NYC string band, the Luminescent Orchestrii, which tours internationally.

Adam J. Thompson | Stage Director

Adam J. Thompson is a New York City-based performance director and producer and the Founding Director of The Deconstructive Theatre Project (DTP), for which he has most recently directed a contemporary two-actor cirque adaptation of Antigone. With DTP, he has also directed and produced Moisés Kaufman’s Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde, co-directed and produced Michel Marc Bouchard’s Lilies, or the Revival of a Romantic Drama and created, directed and produced The Girlie Show and Brecht & Co. He is the resident stage director of photographer Sarah Small’s 120-model performance installation, Tableau Vivant of the Delirium Constructions, which he staged at Skylight One Hanson, the 2010 DUMBO Arts Festival and the East Village’s BathHouse Studios; he will reprise his directing duties during Tableau Vivant’s world tour to 13 cities in 2013. Adam recently served as the Directing Observer on Moisés Kaufman’s One Arm off-Broadway. He has received local and international artistic residencies from Kunsthof Tangendorf, The School of Making Thinking, Chez Bushwick, and the Center for Performance Research (CPR), and holds a BA in directing and dramaturgy from Emerson College in Boston. Vanessa Walters | Dance Choreographer

Vanessa Walters originally hails from Baltimore, land of John Waters and crab cakes, where she began dancing in high school. She then came NYC to attend NYU’s TSOA, got her BFA, and has lived here ever since. Since 2001, Vanessa has been the lead choreographer of Fischerspooner, a performance group known for combining pop entertainment with a high art sensibility. She has traveled the world with them and choreographed many of their music videos. Walters also choreographed music videos for the Blank Dogs, Department of Eagles, Cyndi Lauper, Kings of Leon, Creep, and Nintendo to name a few, as well as live events for Mercedes Benz, Juicy Couture, House of Diehl, JVA, Daisy Spurs, Chaos & Candy, Narcissister, and her own works Bathory and The Man Piece. Vanessa collaborated with Nicole Wolcott for their evening length piece, “100 Beginnings” which premiered at DNA in December 2010. And most recently, she choreographed the musical Camp Wanatachi at La Mama and for Narcissister’s ‘This Masquerade’ at Abron’s Art Center.

Melanie Randolph | Wardrobe Coordinator

Melanie A. Randolph is a New York based costume designer and stylist in her third collaboration with Sarah Small. Originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, Melanie studied production design and film with an emphasis in costume at the Savannah College of Art and Design. She has since pursued her career through styling for short and feature films, television, theater and photography in Georgia and New York.

Melanie's early work in period specific films and costume shops has led to her appreciation for all things vintage. She seeks to incorporate authentic colors and textures of bygone eras into her designs, and is always looking to feature local artists and designers in her styling work.

Melanie truly enjoys her time with the Tableau team and looks forward to new opportunities to visually showcase the magic of the Tableau Vivant of the Delirium Constructions.

Michael Huffington | Film - Executive Producer

Michael Huffington has a distinguished career as a dedicated public servant, successful business executive, film producer and philanthropist whose charitable activities span the globe. In 1998, he was the co-chairman of a successful California ballot initiative to raise the price of cigarettes by 50 cents a pack, providing hundreds of millions of dollars of tax revenue to improve healthcare for children under the age of six. He served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1993 to 1995. Prior to that he was appointed Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Negotiations Policy by President Reagan. He is the recipient of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Outstanding Public Service.

From 1991 to 2000 he was the co-owner of Crest Films Limited, a full-service film production company known for its Emmy-winning commercials, documentaries, and adventure films as well as its work on behalf of non-profit organizations. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from Stanford University in 1970; he graduated from Harvard Business School in 1972 with an MBA in Finance. He has Produced or Executive Produced many award-winning films, including FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO, an insightful non-fiction film which was shortlisted for the 2008 Academy Award nominations for best documentary. Some of his other credits include BI THE WAY, DISSOLUTION, AMERICAN PRIMITIVE, and FATHER VS. SON.

Brian Gonzalez | Film- DP, Co-Director

Brian Gonzalez began his film career as a sophomore in high school as an active member of the SAYSi Media Arts program in San Antonio, Texas. With roots in video art, he photographed a myriad of student works and grew primarily as a cinematographer and in 2005, at age seventeen, he shot his feature film as Director of Photography, La Tragedia de Macario, which gathered acclaim at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival, SXSW Film Festival and more. That fall he began attending the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York City. His first freshman film Positive, won the FYI (Film Your Issue) Film Festival with Oscar Winner George Clooney as the president of the jury and was awarded at the UN by Ellen Burstyn. In his thesis year at SVA he earned Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography at SVA's Dusty Film Festival awarded by Oscar-winner Robert Elswit, ASC. Since graduating with honors from SVA in 2009, with a residency at the Robert Wilson Watermill Center shortly after, he has worked with various fashion magazines directing and editing conceptual video work that has been shown Art Basel -Miami and the Cannes Film Festival as well as working with Atlantic records directing videos with artists including Jay-Z, Fanfarlo, and most recently Panic! at the Disco. Residing in Park Slope, Brooklyn, Gonzalez continues to make high-concept video art with the goal of fusing light installation, sculpture, performance, fashion and non-fiction.

Josephine Decker | Film - Creative Producer, Co-Director, DP

Josephine Decker enjoys in-depth collaborations, stretching the boundaries between documentary and narrative film, and directing music videos full of brouhaha. She has helped to produce docs for A&E and Discovery Times, and her documentary feature "Bi The Way" premiered at SXSW, went on to Silverdocs and about 70 other film fests around the world, received press everywhere from The New York Times to The Austin Chronicle, and is currently airing on the LOGO Network (US) and Astral (Canada). In the past year, she has directed music videos with dancing silverware, 7-year-old dragons, and hand puppets. Her video for Charlie Hewson "Where Are You Going, Elena?" premiered at SXSW '09. She performs accordion with the all-female Main Squeeze Accordion Orchestra and is currently developing a narrative feature film about the group.

Josephine loves to ride her bike around her neighborhood in Brooklyn and spends a lot of time at the Brooklyn Public Library.

David Novack | Film- Co-Producer, Co-Director

David Novack has been a producer, post supervisor, and associate producer for a number of documentary films and television series, including the historical documentary, Songs of Odessa, the acclaimed Showtime/United Nations series, What’s Going On and PBS/WGBH’s Frontline. He wrote, produced and directed the feature documentary Burning the Future: Coal in America, which opened in theaters, has aired on The Sundance Channel and has screened and earned awards at numerous festivals in the US and Europe, including the prestigious IDA Pare Lorentz award for social documentary filmmaking and the Society of Environmental Journalism’s first place for in-depth television reporting. Most recently, Mr. Novack produced Kimjongilia, a documentary about N. Korean refugees that premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival and enjoyed a theatrical run at the International Documentary Association’s Docuweeks Theatrical Showcase. The film won the 2010 best human rights documentary award from the One World Brussels Film Fest of the Human Rights and Democracy Network.

Renzo Vitale | Acoustician

Renzo Vitale is a New York based composer, pianist and acoustic engineer. He graduated in Electronic Engineering at the University of L'Aquila (Italy) and in Piano at the "Santa Cecilia Conservatoire" of Rome. His studies also include electronic music, music composition and conducting. His research encompasses architectural acoustics, psychoacoustics and music communication. Renzo's numerous distinctions for his research in acoustics include prizes (DEGA, AIA), scholarships (Daimler-Benz, DAAD, Boncompagni-Ludovisi) and grants (SID, EAA, Filauro Foundation). In addition to his research interests, Renzo continues to focus on full solo piano concerts where he mainly performs his compositions. He played in several locations around the world, including New York, Berlin, Paris, Rome. He currently is a research scholar at the Department of Achitecture at Pratt Institute in New York and Ph.D. candidate in Acoustics at the Institute of Technical Acoustics at RWTH Aachen University (Germany).
